Designed in affiliation with North Carolina State University.
Architecture from the Global South is an archive of architects from the “Global South” that have rejected globalization in their work and embraced their local cultures. The project is an extension of the Architecture and Cultural Sustainability lecture series at North Carolina State University that aims to bring a more diverse set of architects to share their non-eurocentric voices in hopes of educating students in a profession that has remained focused solely on a euro-centric model of teaching for far too long.
The digital archive is organized into two sections: the map and the gallery. The interactive map prompts students to research different architects based on their location, while the gallery allows students to filter architects and projects by location, materiality, and building typology. From there students can see lecture transcripts, interviews, project analysis, and biographical information of the architects that have been catalogued on the website.
My involvement in the project was as web designer, web developer, and graphic designer. In collaboration with professors, university marketing specialists, and IT professionals I was able to create the website on Wordpress utilizing plugins such as MapSVG, Advanced Custom Fields, and Gridbuilder.
